23 Jul JET Fuel Conversion for Cessna 206 Coming Soon
APUS Zero Emission GmbH Announce Launch of a Continental CD-300 STC Conversion Program
Oshkosh, Wisconsin, July 23, 2024, APUS Zero Emission GmbH – a leading aviation technology developer based in Germany, announced during the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2024 the launch of APUS JET Fuel ConversionTM – a Continental CD-300 STC Conversion Kit for Cessna 206 aircraft.
APUS has started a program to develop Supplemental Type Certificates (STCs) for airframes in the 300hp class, converting them to Continental’s high-tech CD-300 Jet Fuel Piston Engine. With support from Continental Aerospace TechnologiesTM, the conversion promises to deliver up to 40% reduction in fuel consumption and a remarkable 50% reduction in operating costs without compromising performance. Additionally, it aims to elevate cabin comfort to unprecedented levels.
The kit consists of everything required to replace the existing engine and propeller with the Continental CD-300 and MTV-12 Propeller. It is delivered pre-assembled and tested, the engine will be mounted on the cradle with all engine mounted accessories installed, reducing the down time and installation effort to a minimum.
“We are pleased to introduce our high performant jet fuel conversion kits for Cessna 206 aircraft,” said APUS CEO, Phillip Scheffel. “These kits transform older avgas consuming aircraft into modern, eco-friendly, quieter, and very cost-effective aircraft. This upgrade is a significant step towards a safer and more sustainable aviation.”
Benefits of the Conversion Kit
- Less Fuel Consumption: Up to 40% less fuel consumption, 26% less @75% Power
- Lower Operational Costs: Up to 50% savings compared to avgas engines because of reduced downtimes and less fuel consumption
- Single Lever Control: No propeller adjustments needed, no chasing EGTs fuel flows or boost pressures required
- Noise reduction: Max takeoff rpm of 2340 rpm, reducing to 2000 rpm and below in cruise
- Turbo performance: Max continuous power available up to 10000 ft, 80% up to 15000 ft
- More range: Due to efficiency improvement of the CD-300 in combination with the MTV-12 Propeller, 30% more range can be achieved
- More eco-friendly: By replacing avgas and enabling SAF plus achieving less fuel consumption
Installation and Availability
The APUS JET Fuel ConversionTM kit is expected to be available in European and U.S. markets in early 2026.
Conversions to the modern, FADEC-controlled single-lever engine can be performed at any Continental Installation Center worldwide. APUS aims to have the first kits available in 2026, with production scaling up to 50 kits per year in the following years. Early bird programs are available via the APUS website.
“At Continental, we pioneer engine advancements to boost aircraft performance and ensure a greener future. That is why we are proud that APUS has chosen our very reliable CD-300 engine for their Jet Fuel Conversion kit,” said Dr. David Dörner, Vice President of Global Research and Development. “APUS’ reputation for trustworthiness, innovation, and extensive experience in aviation engineering is unparalleled and makes APUS the right leader for this mission.”
